MARGARET BONDS The Ballad of the Brown King
Black American composer Margaret Bonds studied at Juilliard and collaborated with poet Langston Hughes to create The Ballad of the Brown King in 1951. In 1960 she orchestrated the work, dedicated it to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and conducted the premiere performance on a CBS live broadcast with the Westminster Choir.
